None of this means gut changes replace established ADHD treatment. Medication and behavioral approaches have the strongest evidence and remain the main treatment. The research suggests gut-supportive habits may meaningfully add to those treatments, easing the inflammatory environment your brain's focus networks operate in and supporting the same dopamine chemistry your treatment targets.

Start with omega-3s, 1 to 2g of combined EPA and DHA daily has its own evidence for attention support, alongside more fiber variety to support butyrate production. Cut back on ultra-processed food gradually, since the additives in it directly affect your gut barrier in ways that worsen the inflammation already present in ADHD.
