"Lactobacillus" is the broad family, "rhamnosus" narrows it down, and "GG" is the specific strain. Research proving that exact strain helps with antibiotic-related diarrhea tells you nothing about a different Lactobacillus strain. If a label just says "Lactobacillus" with no strain code, it can't be matched to any actual research.
Check three: the CFU count, and when it was measured. CFU stands for colony-forming units, basically the count of live bacteria in each dose. A bigger number isn't automatically better. What actually matters is whether that count is guaranteed through the expiry date, not just on the day it was made. That one detail tells you whether the number on the box still means anything by the time it reaches you.
Knowing your specific goal narrows things further.
