Your gut keeps its own calendar

On a normal day at home, your brain clock and gut clock stay lined up because meals, light, and sleep arrive in a predictable order. Two different problems with two different fixes

Start adjusting before you fly
Shifting your eating and sleeping schedule toward your destination a day or two before you leave gives your gut a head start. Traveling east, try eating dinner and going to bed a little earlier each night beforehand. Traveling west, push both a little later.

- Once you board, set your watch to destination time and eat by that clock, even if it means skipping a meal service.
- After landing, eat at local meal times even when you're not hungry yet.
- Get outside in daylight as soon as you can that first day.
