Five minutes, one blender, no reason to peel the peach. That skin is where most of the fiber and polyphenols are hiding, so it goes straight in. Kefir is the real star here, it's more heavily fermented than yogurt so you're getting a wider range of live bacterial strains per glass, and the banana and flaxseed add fiber that gives those bacteria something to actually work with. Rushing out the door doesn't mean your gut has to miss out.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe peach, unpeeled, pitted and sliced
  • 1 cup kefir
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • Ice, as needed

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Add ice for a thicker, colder consistency.
  3. Pour and serve immediately.

Why This Is Good for Your Gut

Kefir is fermented with a broader range of bacterial and yeast strains than yogurt, including Lactobacillus kefiri, which has been shown to help establish beneficial gut flora. Unpeeled peach skin concentrates fiber and polyphenols that feed those bacteria, and ground flaxseed adds soluble fiber along with lignans that gut microbes convert into beneficial compounds.

Five minutes, one glass, and your microbiome barely had to ask.
