Canned galunggong and sardinas get treated as backup food, the can in the cupboard for when nothing fresh is around, and that reputation undersells what's in the can. Small, whole fish preserved this way carry a nutrient profile that fresh fillets often don't match.

The omega-3 content is doing real work

Small oily fish like sardines and galunggong are genuine sources of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA specifically, the types most studied for their anti-inflammatory effects throughout the body, including in the gut.[1] Chronic low-grade inflammation is increasingly linked to a range of gut and metabolic conditions, and regular omega-3 intake is one of the more consistently supported dietary tools for managing that inflammation over time. The sodium tradeoff to keep in mind

Sodium note: Canned fish in brine or sauce carries meaningfully more sodium than the same fish prepared fresh. What canning does and doesn't change

What to do with this
